Manly Council Selected NexComm’s
SHDSL Solutions in order to integrate VoIP Services |
Universal
Network Technologies (UNT), founded in 1998, Nexcomm’s official Australian partner, is a provider of competitive broad
band network solutions. With a strong focus on the local government and enterprise
sectors, their aim is to deliver the performance and cost benefits of Nexcomm’s
Ethernet based SHDSL technologies to network service providers, and to assist in the industry movement towards competitive telecommunications.
Fully having the advantage of Nexcomm’s SHDSL products, UNT, providing point to point IP and backbone service nationwide,
offers highly competitive benefits to customers such as high speed up to 9.2Mbps last mile solution,
load balanced SHDSL and leased line solution, and service reliability and redundancy.
In accordance with the needs of higher data rates and long reach in suburban area in Sydney and Melbourne CBD,
Universal network aggressively expand their business with long distance Ethernet backbone service with particularly
focused on 2.3 to 9.2Mbps symmetrical connection. In addition, Nexcomm’s multiple
redundant connectivity offered by UNT allows continued operation during a complete
power outage.
Recently UNT succeeded in Nexcomm’s
solutions deployed in the following sites and keeps making customers satisfied;
| • |
Road & Traffic Authority |
| • |
Western Sydney Area Health Service ?last mile
distribution of their 3 hop/34Mb microware backbone to administration
and small offices.
Murray Area Health service ?connection of community centre with main hospital
network. |
| • |
IIIawarra Area Health service ?Replacement
of 4 wire HDSL services with 4.6Mb G.shdsl link. |
| • |
Tyree Group corp. ?Installed dsl link between
offices, sharing Internet and server (256/256k rate adaptive: bridge
mode ?link distance approx 6 -7 Km via 2 exchanges) |
Furthermore the latest victory of UNT is the contract with Manly council regarding deploying VoIP application with Nexcomm Systems as follows;
Manly council is a local government department servicing the municipal and civic requirements of the Manly, a Northern suburb of Sydney with has a population of 40,000. The council provides services such as road and park maintenance, child care and community services, libraries, car parks and public swimming
ammenities.
Manly council recognized the growing demand for high data rates and security features for their networks to allow more reliable Internet connections and VoIP application. In perspective of council’s Intranet and VoIP, VLAN and QoS are the essential part of upgrading their private SHDSL network.
However presently due to the high cost of ISDN, it is not feasible to network all offices at 64k and 128k. Predominantly council offices are networked using dial-up
to provide basic connectivity at an affordable cost however this prevents efficient usage of applications (thin client typically utilized to provide usability) and prevents any higher level applications such as VoIP, Video and Geographic Information systems.
In order to deliver services to the community, Manly council operates more than 15 remote offices of 5 to 50 staff in addition to a central administration building with a further 200 employees. Each of the offices are networked (traditionally using ISDN
or dial-up) to provide data connectivity for staff and community records, email and internet.
Due to the high density of council offices (each office is within 3.5km radius), Universal Network Technologies were able to network each office together using a combination of Nexcomm SHDSL and leased copper telephone pairs extending from council administration office out to each of the remote offices
(via the telco exchange of course).
Due to the relatively short distances between each office, 2.3Mbps of bandwidth could easily be provided to each of the smaller offices with 4.6Mbps provided to larger offices using Nexcomm NR104 inverse multiplexing technology.
In deploying the Nexcomm solution each office immediately experienced dramatic increases in bandwidth levels (greater than 15 times!) at less than half their
previous monthly spend on WAN services. In addition to providing geater data connectivity, the Nexcomm SHDSL allowed the implementation of a VoIP access
the entire network allowing the removal of PSTN and PABX infrastructure at each
of the remote sites and leading to reductions in costs for;
• Inter-office communication
• PABX and Telephone Maintenance and rental
.
• Telco PSTN and ISDN line rental and call costs.
In addition to reducing costs, the implementation of VoIP allowed greater ease of user management with complete number portability between offices and expandability.
Their network upgrade with Nexcomm products will reduce ongoing costs for inter-site connectivity & Internet as well as provide infrastructure for the implementation
of QoS based VoIP and enterprise applications.
